Behind the Scenes

Product Development: We Are All Ergobaby

After recently giving you an insight into our production facilities, we would like to go yet one step further back in the production chain. The creation of a new “Ergobaby” or the further development of an existing product from our company is always a joint effort. Because it is not only our chief developer Rodney in Maui who is involved in the creation process. By using our baby carriers, YOU play a major role in improving our products.

We take feedback from our customers, parents and, in some ways, babies very seriously and suggestions for improvement or confirmations always flow into the development of new and existing Ergobaby products.

When we then get down to the actual creation of a baby carrier, a stroller or a new sleep product, parents and their children come into play once again because the prototype of a new model has to be put through its paces. To do this, we conduct consumer surveys and tests in which parents use these prototypes in their daily routines and then give us their very personal feedback. During this phase, experts are available to assist the families. Always on board: chief developer Rodney and our carrier expert Katrin. These prototype tests ultimately form the basis for the new baby carrier, stroller or sleep product.

In order to get go ahead to launch a product on the market at all, a number of standards and tests must be met. For this reason, we carry out the following tests with our prototypes, among others:

  • Colour fastness test, which checks the rubbing fastness and lightfastness of the dyed fabric (including rubbing fastness/colour transfer by dry/wet rubbing, fading of the colour by water, light sweat – everything you encounter in your daily life with a baby)
  • Flammability
  • Pilling (the small lumps that are created when the fabric is rubbed together)
  • Abrasion
  • Tear resistance

The Embrace baby carrier has a super-soft fabric which is certified according to Oeko Tex Standard 100 Class 2. In this test, the fabric is tested to the extreme, excluding a considerable amount of chemicals in the fabric, including AZO dyes and REACH chemicals, which under no circumstances belong in such products. However, when our products are ready for the market, the testing does not stop for us, for example we also always submit all our “Ergobabys” to be certified by Aktion gesunder Rücken e.V. (AGR).

This way we can be sure that our products are flawless and that we offer you and your baby only the best. And we are convinced of this, which is why we offer our 10-year guarantee promise, the ErgoPromise Guarantee. And if there is something you'd like to share then please do get in touch because, as we said, you are all part of our successful product development.
