How to Set your Ergobaby Baby Carrier Up Out of the Box
So you’ve just received your brand spanking new (or delightfully preloved!) baby carrier… now what? First things first – safety! We’d love you to check out this blog: Safe Babywearing From The Beginning that outlines the T.I.C.K.S rules for babywearing. They only take a few minutes to read but are hugely important!
Then onto your carrier… of course all our carriers come with written instructions, and you can find video instructions here but here’s our carrier by carrier guide to how to set your carrier up out the box.
Embrace
Our Embrace carrier is specially designed for newborn snuggles but it can be used for babies up to 11kg. Regardless of the age/height of your baby the carrier comes out the box ready to go as this carrier’s adjustments are made as you put it on. For a newborn baby under 23 inches / 58.4cm long you will roll the waistband to shorten the panel and make it suitable for newborns (you can see how here) but for babies over 23 inches / 58.4cm long you just buckle up and go (demo here)!
Adapt
If baby isn’t here yet or you have a newborn baby then good news, your Adapt carrier is all set up and ready to go. The neck support cushion should be buttoned to the inside and the velcro tabs on the waistbelt should be on the narrowest setting.
If you are using the carrier with an older baby or your carrier has been used before then follow these steps:
- Adjust the seat to your baby’s weight using the velcro pads on the inside of the waistband
- Position the neck cushion for head support (on the inside for 0-6 weeks then on the outside buttoned down for babies 6 weeks+. You can button it up for extra support when baby is older/sleeping etc.
- Finally, loosen all the straps enough to make putting baby in the carrier comfortable.
All Position 360
If you are planning to use your All Position 360 carrier with a baby under the age of 4 months then you will need to use one of our infant inserts. You can see how to set this up here. If you are using the carrier with an older baby then follow these steps:
- Adjust the seat to your baby’s weight using the velcro pads on the inside of the waistband
- Position the neck cushion for head support (on the inside for 0-6 weeks then on the outside buttoned down for babies 6 weeks+. You can button it up for extra support when baby is older/sleeping etc.
- Adjust the seat for whether baby is facing in or out (baby should only face outwards when they have good head and neck control, around 5 months) by either choosing the black (inwards facing) or grey (outwards facing) buttons or pushing the sliders all the up (inwards facing) or down (outwards facing).
- Finally, loosen all the straps enough to make putting baby in the carrier comfortable.
Omni (Omni 360 in Cotton or Cool Air Mesh, Omni Breeze and Omni Dream)
If your Omni carrier is brand new out the box and you are using it with a newborn, then your carrier comes set up and ready to go. The velcro tabs on the inside of the waistband should be on the narrowest setting, the sliders top (or buttons on black on the outside of the panel) and the neck support buttoned on the inside of the panel.
You can button it up for extra support when baby is older/sleeping etc.)
- Adjust the seat for whether baby is facing in or out (baby should only face outwards when they have good head and neck control, around 5 months) by either choosing the black (inwards facing) or grey (outwards facing) buttons or pushing the sliders all the up (inwards facing) or down (outwards facing)
- Finally, loosen all the straps enough to make putting baby in the carrier comfortable.
Aerloom
Similarly to our Embrace carriers, the Aerloom is made from one piece of fabric, knitted to size and trimmed to spec, meaning there is very little set up required, you may just need to loosen the arm straps for comfort. If you have a newborn baby (up to 23 inches / 58.4cm long) you will fold the panel through the outside band before securing the waistbelt (demo here), otherwise you’re good to go.
So now you’re good to go! But before you do, here are some other key blog posts we’d love you to check out before you use your carrier – each one will help make babywearing safer and more comfortable for both you and baby:
